Campbell, Forbes set meet records in Sweden
JAMAICA’S Olympic Games bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell and compatriot Shashalee Forbes both set meet records during the Boras Folksam Grand Prix, a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger event held at Ryavallen in Sweden on Wednesday.
Campbell won the Men’s Shot Put — his second win since claiming bronze at the Paris Olympics — with a 21.13m effort, while Forbes held off a good field to win the Women’s 100m in 11.14 seconds (1.4m/s).
Campbell had just two legal marks but had his best throw in the third round as he got the better of Great Britain’s Scott Lincoln (20.16m) and Sweden’s Wictor Petersson (19.57m).
Forbes, a semi-finalist in the Women’s 100m at the Olympics, was an easy winner on Wednesday as Julia Henricksson, a semi-finalist in the 200m at the Olympics, grabbed second place with 11.21 seconds. Jamaica’s Natasha Morrison (11.26) was third while another Jamaican, Serena Cole, was fifth in 11.30.
Meanwhile, Kadrian Goldson and Demish Gaye were winners in the Men’s 100m and 300m, respectively, at the Rieter mitink event held at Atleticky stadion in Usti Nad Orlici, Czech Republic, on Tuesday.
Goldson ran 10.52 seconds (-0.7m/s) for his win, beating Emmanuel Aboda of Uganda (10.60) and Zdenek Stromsik of the Czech Republic who was third with 10.65.
Gaye, a 400m specialist, won the 300m in 32.47 seconds, his first time competing over the distance.
Czech runners Matej Krsek (32.85) and Ondrej Macik (32.87) finished behind him.
