Cavalier kick off Caribbean Cup campaign with 2-0 win over Mount Pleasant
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Mount Pleasant Football Academy’s debut in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup didn’t go according to plan as they went down to 2-0 to Cavalier FC on Tuesday at Sabina Park in the opening group game of the competition.
The St Ann-based club found themselves behind in the opening 10 minutes after Christopher Ainsworth found the back of the net from the penalty spot.
Jamaica Premier League champions Cavalier, who finished runners up in the 2023 edition, doubled their advantage in the 25th minute when Jalmaro Calvin’s brilliant cross found Shaquille Stein who headed home from close range.
Despite several substitutions and tweaks to their system, Mount Pleasant were unable to make any breakthrough as Cavalier moved to the top of the group with 3 points.
Mount Pleasant will look to bounce back next Tuesday when they take on fellow Jamaican club Arnett Gardens.
Cavalier’s next game will be next Thursday at Sabina Park against Police FC of Trinidad and Tobago.
