Urgent need for repairs on Spur Tree Hill
Dear Editor,
The following is an open letter to Everton G Hunter, CEO of National Works Agency.
I am writing to bring to your immediate attention the deplorable state of the main roadway leading from Hatfield to the top of Spur Tree Hill in the parish of Manchester as well as the overgrown vegetation along its lower slopes, both of which require urgent intervention.
Firstly, the main roadway from Hatfield to the top of Spur Tree Hill has deteriorated significantly over the past months, becoming what can only be described as an obstacle course. The road is riddled with potholes, making it extremely difficult and hazardous for motorists to navigate. The current state of the road not only increases the wear and tear on vehicles but also poses a significant safety risk to drivers and passengers alike. I urge National Works Agency to prioritise the repair of this roadway before the situation worsens and potentially leads to accidents.
Secondly, the soft shoulder along the lower slopes of Spur Tree Hill is in dire need of trimming. Overgrown trees and shrubs have encroached onto the roadway, reducing its width and making it increasingly difficult to drive on, especially for larger vehicles. The narrowed road has become a concern for all who use this route, and it is imperative that this vegetation is cut back to restore the full width of the roadway and ensure safe passage for all motorists.
Finally, I would like to highlight the critical need for regular clearing of trees and vegetation from the inner circle at the very steep downhill turn along Spur Tree main road. This particular section of the road is treacherous, and the overgrown vegetation severely limits visibility for drivers. It is especially important that drivers ascending the hill have a clear view of vehicles coming down, particularly the large, heavily laden trucks that frequent this route. The current lack of visibility is intimidating for many drivers, including the elderly and women, who may find it especially challenging to navigate this section of the road safely.
I respectfully request that National Works Agency address these issues as a matter of urgency. The residents and motorists who utilise this roadway daily would greatly appreciate your prompt action to restore safety and accessibility to this critical thoroughfare.
Thank you for your attention to these pressing concerns. I look forward to your positive response and timely intervention.
