Star-studded line-up for Rome Diamond League sprint
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson is set to line-up against a number of high profile athletes in the 100m event at the Golden Gala Diamond League in Rome, Italy on August 30, 2024.
The event will see the likes of his colleague Ackeem Blake; United States’ Fred Kerley and Christian Coleman as well as Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo and Italy’s very own Marcell Jacobs competing for the win at the Stadio Olimpico.
Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala, Japan’s Abdul Hakim Sani Brown and Italy’s Chituru Ali are also scheduled to compete.
Thompson made his Olympic debut this year delivering a silver medal as he ran 9.79 seconds (1.m/s), the same time as winner Noah Lyles of the United States in the final of the men’s 100m at Stade de France in Paris earlier this month.
Thompson’s medal was the first for a Jamaican man in any major global championships since Usain Bolt’s bronze at the World Championships in 2017.
