Delano upbeat as Sean Paul’s The Trinity is certified platinum in the UK
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Veteran disc jockey and producer Delano Thomas of Renaissance Disco, says he began working with international recording artiste Sean Paul from the early days of his career and he always enjoyed their chemistry in the studio.
Thomas made the assertion in an interview with Observer Online after he learnt that Sean Paul’s third studio album The Trinity was certified platinum (300,000 units) last Friday by the British Phonographic Industry in the United Kingdom.
Thomas produced two songs on The Trinity, namely We Be Burnin and Head in the Zone.
“Sean Paul is like family, and we were there from the start of his career. So it was always fun working with him in the studio,” said Thomas.
Thomas later worked with the artiste on the track Straight From My Heart, which was featured on Sean Paul’s fourth studio album Imperial Blaze.
We Be Burnin is featured on the popular Stepz rhythm. The song was a hit locally and crossed over to the mainstream market in America. It was also a hit on several European charts.
We Be Burnin was a top 10 hit in the United States, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Scotland, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Finland, Belgium and Austria.
It was also certified platinum in the United States and gold in Canada, Denmark, Germany, Japan, while earning silver certification in the United Kingdom.
“Working with Sean Paul has helped to put us on the map as international producers. It also helped to get the Renaissance sound system booked for several festivals, television shows all over the world, while creating opportunities to record other artistes,” Delano recalled.
Released in 2005, The Trinity opened in the United States with first week sales exceeding 107,000 copies, which is to date the biggest opening week for a Jamaican artiste.
The Trinity topped Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart and debuted at #5 on the all-genre Billboard 200 Albums chart. It has to date sold more than four million copies globally.
The album was previously certified gold in Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland and platinum in Canada, Japan, while racking up double platinum certifications in the United States and France.
