Granville book St James FA U-20 semis spot
FLANKER, St James — Granville United booked a spot in the semi-finals of the St James Football Association/Guardian Group Under-20 competition after edging Flanker Lions 1-0 in their Zone B game at Flanker on Wednesday.
Granville United’s second win saw them finish second in the group on six points, two behind Maldon High and one ahead of Spot Valley Rovers and Green Pond United.
Richard Butt scored the lone goal of the game in the 47th minute for Granville United.
Defending champions Cambridge United topped Zone A with 10 points, two better than Reggae Youths (eight). Irwin High finished in third place on seven points.
Cambridge United FC and Granville United FC will meet in one semi-final game, while Maldon and Reggae Youths FC will meet in the other.
On Tuesday, Cambridge United FC hammered nine-man Bogue United FC 7-2, while Maldon and Spot Valley ended 2-2. In another encounter, Irwin High beat Cambridge High 3-1.
Davalio Gillard and Romeo Carter both notched braces for Cambridge United, while Tiyies Williams, Jahmar Stevens and Xavier James also scored. Leejay Escoffery and Andre Starrad got the goals for Bogue.
Bogue United players Natel Messam and Joel Hibbert were both sent off, in the 15th and 36th minutes, respectively.
Maldon took a 2-0 lead in their game with goals from Kevin Hawthorne in the 30th minute and Kenroy Thorpe in the 46th, but Spot Valley hit back with a double from Keyanta Clarke who scored in the 68th and 80th.
Irwin came from a goal down to beat Cambridge High who took the lead in the 13th minute through JayR Moore who scored his fourth of the competition.
Desroy Campbell pulled Irwin level in the 67th minute, and Nicardo Tomlinson extended his leading goals tally to seven when he gave Irwin the lead in the 71st minute. Ronaldeno Richards added a third for Irwin in the 73rd minute.
