Caymanas Park celebrates 65 years of racing with trophy race
To commemorate its 65th anniversary, Caymanas Park is hosting a special trophy race — the $1.19 million Caymanas Park 65th Anniversary Trophy — on tomorrow’s 10-race card.
This contest features seven talented runners competing in a Restricted Stakes event for imported three-year-olds and upward (non-winners of three) and native-bred three-year-olds and four-year-olds (non-winners of four) over seven furlongs.
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a look at each runner and their chances of winning.
1. ANTARCTICA: (4 b c by Savoy Stomp – Jesse’s Favourite) – After a disappointing ninth-place finish on August 6, Antarctica is due for a rebound. This four-year-old colt has shown promise in the past, and his connections will be hoping for a much-improved performance.
2. RICHES TO RAGS (USA): (3 ch f by Union Rags – Place des Vosges) – Finished fourth by 6 ¾ lengths behind Allegiance at this distance on July 20. With
Allegiance present here, the chances of Riches To Rags winning are very slim.
3. O SO SMART: (3 ch f by Soul Warrior – Patchwork) – Is likely to struggle in this field. O So Smart may find herself at the back of the pack, unless she can pull off a surprise.
4. HUNTSMAN: (4 ch c by Key To Power – Dream Point) – Consistency is key for this runner, who always gives his best. Huntsman’s connections can expect another earning performance, even if he doesn’t take the top spot.
5. ALLEGIANCE: (3 ch c by Midnight Hawk – Princess Geeta) – Fresh from a thrilling win on July 20, Allegiance returns well-trained and poised for a repeat victory.
Allegiance has momentum on his side and is the one to beat.
6. PRINCESS AMAHLE (USA): (3 b f by Klimt – Nuestra Union) – This talented foreigner is expected to thrive on the galloping course, leveraging her speed to make a strong bid. Princess Amahle could be the one to challenge Allegiance’s dominance.
7. BLU SENSATION: (3 b f by Sensational Slam – Blues In The Grass) – After a lacklustre performance in the Jamaica Oaks, Blu Sensation should find comfort in the shorter distance. This filly has a chance to redeem herself and contend for the top spot.
