Middle-distance runner Marshall transfers to Arkansas
Rivaldo Marshall, the NCAA Indoors men’s 800m champion, has completed his transfer to the University of Arkansas after competing for University of Iowa last season, a release from the University of Arkansas confirmed on Wednesday.
The former Calabar High standout is one of several athletes that Arkansas has signed for the upcoming cross-country and track and field season.
Marshall won the NCAA indoor title at the championships held at The Track at New Balance in Boston in March after a fifth-place finish at the Big 10 Championships just over a week earlier.
He added the Big 10 outdoor title in June but could only manage seventh place in the NCAA outdoor championships.
Marshall, who attended Indian Hills Community College after leaving Calabar, holds the University of Iowa school records in the 800m with times of 1:46.86 indoor and 1:45.86 outdoor.
At Indian Hills Community College, located in the state of Iowa, Marshall was a seven-time All-American, winning the National Junior College Athletics Association (NJCAA) Indoor 800m title in 2023, while placing third at the NJCAA Outdoor meet.
In 2022, Marshall claimed the NJCAA Outdoor 800m title and placed second indoor. He also played key roles on the 4x400m relay team, anchoring Iowa’s winning squad (3:05.68) at the 2024 Big 10 Championships with a split of 45.86. In the Big 10 indoor meet, Marshall anchored Iowa to a third-place finish (3:07.48).
At Indian Hills, Marshall ran the anchor leg on silver, bronze and fourth-place 4x400m relay teams in NJCAA Championships.
