Out of Many, One Daunzri
There is no disputing that fashion in Jamaica embraces its own look and feel. After being inspired to make clothing that gives her the opportunity to mix it with art and storytelling, Daunzri Apparel principal Camille Blair eight years ago created her brand to do just that.
Juggling various materials like silk, cotton, spandex linen and even African prints, Blair creates pieces that reflect her artistic vision. Blair told Tuesday Style Fashion (TSF) her designs are a reflection of her heart and are influenced by women in fashion, art, culture, and people’s stories.
If you’re the person that goes all-out for birthdays or other milestones, Daunzri has clothing for those special events. But since we are still in August, TSF is highlighting some Daunzri garments you could wear to embrace your cultural linkages. Or if you desire African print or afro-inspired pieces, Daunzri has some pieces to match. Blair tells TSF her brand reflects her Jamaican culture because her designs are “rooted in comfort, elegance, and are statement-making”. Daunzri Apparel’s “My Nappy Girl” collection focuses heavily on promoting Jamaica’s rich cultural heritage, with pieces that place emphasis on the beauty of natural hair with the use of Jamaican-inspired patterns and colours. Blair hopes Daunzri someday will be “a benchmark for quality, craftsmanship, and style” in the Jamaican fashion industry.
