Man arrested for vandalism of telecom cables in Mandeville
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A man has been taken into police custody after he was caught allegedly vandalising telecom cables in Mandeville on Tuesday morning.
Police said the man was among a group of men using a vehicle to remove the cables from Hargreaves Avenue in Mandeville when about 4:00 am a team on patrol saw the vandals.
According to the police, five men ran and made their escape while another man was apprehended.
Police said the detained man is from a New Green address in Mandeville.
In June, Michael Brown, Flow’s director of technology operations, said the theft of copper and other materials from the company has significantly hampered the quality of service delivered to affected customers, who have been left with no access to emergency services, and no connectivity for personal entertainment, education, as well as online business transactions.
