JFF Championships play-offs return round begins
DUNCANS, Trelawny — Group leaders Boys Town, Progressive FC and Duncans United will seek to at least maintain their advantages when the return round of the Jamaica Football Federation Championships play-offs gets underway today with four games scheduled.
With the teams seeking to earn a place in the Championships, the second tier of club football in the country, the intensity is expected to pick up as the race for places heats up.
Boys Town and Spanish Town Police will meet in a Group A game where one point separates the teams and a winner could take a big step towards winning the group.
Boys Town, who had won the first-round meeting between the two teams 3-1, leads with four points, one more than Spanish Town Police who had rebounded to beat Seaforth SC 1-0.
The situation is similar in Group B where leaders Progressive FC will take on second-placed Exchange United at Drax Hall and will hope to at least repeat their first-round 1-0 win.
Duncans United of Trelawny and 12th Street of Westmoreland are tied on seven points at the top of Group D and if they can score repeat wins over Granville United and Lucea United, will turn the competition into a two-team race.
Duncans will be home to last-placed Granville United who they had spanked 5-0 in the first round and should get the points today.
The Westmoreland team had edged Lucea United 1-0 in the first round with a last-minute goal but will be away today against a team that would close the gap with a win.
