#ParisOlympics: Nickisha Pryce ends athletic season following disappointing Olympic campaign
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Nickisha Pryce announced the end of her athletic season on Friday after she failed to progress beyond the semi-final round of the women’s 400m at the Paris Olympics.
The national record holder said in an Instagram post that while her season had a disappointing end, she is trusting that God knows best, and she will use her experience at the Olympics as a stepping stone.
“The end of my season may not have been what I had hoped for, but I trust that God knows best. Despite the disappointment of not achieving the desired outcome, I believe that there is a reason for everything and that God has a plan for me,” she wrote.
“I’ll use this as a stepping stone towards something greater and that there are valuable lessons to be learned from this experience.”
Pryce said, however, that she is grateful for the experience and her achievements this season.
“Even though it may be difficult to accept at the moment, I am grateful for the opportunity to grow. With that being said I’m utmost grateful for everything l’ve achieve this season. Next year will be even better by God’s will. Thank you to all my supporters who ride with me along my journey,” she added.
Ahead of the Olympics Pryce was a favourite to medal in the 400m as she has had a superb season, including running a world leading time of 48.57 seconds at the London Diamond League in July.
However, she finished fourth in her semi-final at the Olympics with a time of 50.77 seconds, failing to progress to the finals. Her teammates Stacey Ann Williams and Junelle Bromfield also failed to get to the 400m final at the Paris Games. Williams ran 50.79 for seventh in her semi-final, while Bromfield was eighth in her semi-final in 51.93 seconds.
The 400m final on Friday was won by Dominican Republic Marileidy Paulino who ran 48.17 seconds to set a new Olympic Record.
