#ParisOlympics: PM commends Roje Stona on discus gold
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Prime Minister Andrew Holness has commended Roje Stona on his gold medal in the men’s discus throw at the Olympic Games at Stade de France in Paris on Wednesday.
Stona set a new Olympic record of 70.00m to win the discus throw event earning Jamaica’s first gold medal of the Games.
This is Jamaica’s first ever gold medal in any throwing event at a senior major global championships.

Congratulating Stona on the major accomplishment, Holness said the athlete has done his family proud and has brought tremendous joy to the country.
“Indeed, he has reminded the world that Jamaicans are resilient people, we are talented people and we are capable of not only doing well on the track but also shining in field events,” the prime minister said.
“We are proud of you Roje and we celebrate your major achievement,” he added.
