Five men arrested in US$75m cocaine bust at St Andrew home
ST ANDREW, Jamaica— Five men were arrested, and a substance believed to be cocaine valued at over US$75 million seized during an anti-narcotic operation carried out at an upper St Andrew home on Tuesday.
The identities of the men have not been disclosed.
A team of police officers from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) within the Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) carried out the operation resulting in the arrests and the seizure of a number of knitted bags believed to contain cocaine.
The substance weighs 2,526.4 kilograms and has an estimated street value of US$75,792,000 ($J11.7 billion), police said.
The police further reported that the contents of the knitted bags are being processed and further updates will be provided.
“This operation further demonstrates the ongoing efforts of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to combat narcotics and firearms trafficking in Jamaica,” the report said.
