BirdShack Fry Chicken provides 200 jobs in 2 years
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The newly opened BirdShack Fry Chicken outlet on Red Hills Road, Kingston has created 25 new jobs, bringing to roughly 200 people employed by the quick serve restaurant franchise which now operates five stores across Jamaica since opening in 2022.
“This (Red Hills Road outlet) store will hire 25 people. Between here and the other four stores, plus our corporate office and other support services, we are approaching 200 employees in two years,” disclosed Chief Executive Officer of BirdShack Jamaica, Wayne Cummings.
After opening its first restaurant at the Whitter Village Mall in Montego Bay, St James in April 2022, the operators of BirdShack then opened its second store at the Barnett Tech Park, also in the parish, in 2023.
“And then our best selling store opened February of 2024, this year on Barnett Street right across from the bus park. And that I am telling you gangbusters. Ocho Rios store followed in March of this year and now we are following up with Kingston in August 1,” Cummings told reporters at the official opening of the Kingston outlet last week.
He hinted that there are plans to establish additional outlets in Kingston.
“We can’t stop at one for Kingston. I mean Kingston as you know every road is a different artery going in a different place. There is no way that this (Red Hills Road) store can support Kingston so we are looking but we have to feel the place,” Cummings said.
“Constant Spring Road, Liguanea Half- Way- Tree, downtown Parade is exciting for us. We have been looking at a number of stores, we haven’t found the right one yet. But the good thing is that the brand has now become so rooted we are getting a lot of calls from landlords who want to work with us so we are excited about that,” he added.
