Ricketts congratulates Arnett on Carib Club Shield glory
Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) President Michael Ricketts has congratulated Arnett Gardens on their historic victory in the 2024 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Caribbean Club Shield over Grenades FC of Antigua and Barbuda in the final played in Curacao on Sunday.
Arnett Gardens, a semi-finalists in the Jamaica Premier League last season, are the first Jamaican club to win the competition since its inception in 2018.
Rushane Thompson scored the winner in the 73rd minute, picking up a ball from the right wing, just outside the 18-yard box and lashed it into the far top corner of the Grenades FC goal.
Arnett Gardens will play in Group A of the 2024 Concacaf Caribbean Cup with Jamaican clubs Mount Pleasant Academy and Cavalier SC as well as Real Hope (Haiti) and Police FC (Trinidad and Tobago).
Grenades will play in Group B with Cibao (Dominican Republic), Moca (Dominican Republic), AC Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) and Ouanaminthe (Haiti).
Fabian Reid shared the Golden Boot award with Travist Joseph of Dublanc (Dominica) — both scoring four goals each.
“We are truly delighted for Arnett Gardens for representing Jamaica well in this competition,” Ricketts said in a JFF press release. “And now we look forward to seeing (three) Jamaican clubs in the upcoming Concacaf Caribbean Cup later this month. I’m looking forward to this as our clubs continue to do well in these regional competitions.”
The 2024 staging of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup kicks off on August 20 when Mount Pleasant Academy plays Cavalier at Sabina Park.
