#ParisOlympics: JeVaughn Powell comes up short in men’s 400m
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Jamaica’s only hope of qualifying for the men’s 400m final at the Olympic Games, JeVaughn Powell came up short after he finished fourth in his semi-final heat at Stade de France in Paris on Tuesday.
Powell, who had a long season after competing in the American NCAA season, ran 44.91 seconds behind an impressive run from Great Britain’s Matthew Hudson-Smith, the World Championships silver medallist.
Michael Norman of the USA was second in 44.26 seconds and Nigeria’s Samuel Ogazi who ran a lifetime best 44.41 seconds to take one of the spots in the final.
Grenada’s Kirani James, who is seeking a fourth Olympic medal, led the qualifying with 43.78 seconds.
