Alleged scammer granted $400k bail
MONTEGO BY, St James — A Manchester man who was found in possession of paraphernalia relating to lottery scamming was granted bail when he recently appeared in the St James Parish Court.
Karwin Hines appeared before presiding judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton, charged with possession of identity information.
According to court documents, about 4:30 pm on June 19, 2024, the Area One Operational Support Unit stopped a white Mercedes Benz while conducting vehicular checks in Coral Gardens, St James.
The allegations are that during a search of the vehicle a PayPal visa debit card was found. Hines was arrested and transported to the Lottery Scam Task Force.
In examining his iPhone, it was discovered that
WhatsApp messages exchanged between Hines and an individual identified as “Million” contained images of identity information belonging to individuals residing overseas.
Hines was granted bail in the sum of $400,000 with up to three sureties following an application by his attorney Jermaine Campbell.
As part of his bail conditions, he is to report to a specific police station on specific days.
The case will again be mentioned on November 19.
