#ParisOlympics: Smikle leads Jamaican trio through to discus final
National champion Traves Smikle led the trio of Jamaican men to the final of the discus throw at the Paris Olympics on Monday.
Only four men got over the automatic qualifying mark of 66.00m, led by world record holder Mykolas Alekna.
The Jamaicans were well placed with Smikle throwing 65.91m on his second attempt after opening with 59.18.
Ralford Mullings was fifth in Group A, one spot behind Smikle with 65.18m in the first round and fouling his next two throws.
Roje Stona was second overall in Group B with 65.32m on his second attempt after fouling his opening throw, and also threw 63.30m which would also have been good enough to see him through.
