#ParisOlympics: Pinnock, McLeod advance to long jump final, Gayle out
Wayne Pinnock and Carey McLeod are both through to the final of the men’s long jump at the Olympic Games after Sunday morning’s qualifying round at Stade de France. However, Jamaica’s other representative, Tajay Gayle failed to advance.
In what was a brutal qualifying round, none of the three Americans managed to advance with just two jumpers, defending champion Miltiadis Tentoglou of Greece, 8.32m (-0.6m/s), and Radek Juska of the Czech Republic, 8.15m (0.7m/s), managing to get the automatic qualifying mark of 8.15m.
Pinnock, the silver medallist at the World Championships last year, jumped 7.96m (1.6m/s), seventh best overall, while McLeod, the World Indoors bronze medallist, was 11th overall with 7.90m (-0.2m/s).
Gayle’s best mark was 7.78m (-1.3m/s), 19th overall.
