#ParisOlympics: Jamaican athletes in Olympic Village provided with AC units
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Jamaican athletes at the Olympic Village in Paris should be more comfortable after portable air conditioning units were provided by the management of the Jamaican team, Observer Online has been told.
Ludlow Watts, manager of the track and field team to the Olympics confirmed on Sunday’s fourth day of the track and field schedule that all rooms with Jamaican athletes had been provided with a portable air conditioning unit.
“There were some issues with the heat but all the athletes have now been provided with AC units in their rooms,” Watts said after Sunday morning’s session at the Stade de France.
The organisers of the Olympics had opted not to install air conditioning in the rooms in the athletes’ village as they aimed for a “green” Games to lessen the impact of the carbon emission that would have come from the hundreds of air conditioning units.
Fans were provided for the rooms, however with the increase in global temperatures being experienced, a number of athletes, not just Jamaicans, complained about heat discomfort even at nights.
A number of teams had provided portable air conditioning units for their athletes prior to them moving into the village.
