#ParisOlympics: Sabrina Lyn fails to progress to semis after placing fifth in 50m freestyle
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Sabrina Lyn failed to make Saturday evening’s semi-finals of the Women’s 50m Freestyle in the Olympic swimming pool after placing fifth in her heat during the morning session.
The 20-year-old Jamaican, who is at Louisiana State University in the USA, clocked 26.08 in a seventh heat won by Thailand’s Jenjira Srisa-ard.
Lyn was 29th out of 79 on overall times and did not make the top 16 necessary to progress.
Lyn, who cites Jamaican swimming legend Alia Atkinson as her inspiration and role model, said her start was poor and, in an event which is the aquatic equivalent of the 60-metre dash in track and field, there is little room for error.
Swedish World Record holder Sarah Sjoestroem, 10 years Lyn’s senior, topped the qualifiers in winning heat 10 in 23.85 – just 24 hundredths of a second shy of her one-length sprint’s best ever time.
