#ParisOlympics: Jamaica confirms Fraser-Pryce withdrawal from 100m due to injury
PARIS, France – Jamaica’s team manager Ludlow Watts has confirmed that two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce picked up an injury during the warm-up before the semifinals of the women’s 100m competition, which led to her withdrawal from the event.
“When we got the news about half an hour earlier, she was warming up, and so it came as a surprise to me,” said Watts.
“We only got the information that she is injured, but doctor Warren Blake is addressing the matter, and we will speak further on the matter,” he said.
Watts noted that Fraser-Pryce being absent from the 100m event was not only a massive shock to him but also to track and field fans around the world.
“This was a surprise and disappointment because the whole world would love to see Shelly in the Olympics because she has always been doing extremely well, and she is a proud athlete, and the whole world recognises her as a proud athlete,” he stated. “Apart from being a Jamaican, I am sure that people who love track and field would be very disappointed globally.”
Fraser-Pryce, 37, competing in her fifth Olympic Games, has indicated that this will be her last. Sher won back-to-back Olympic 100m titles in 2008 and 2012.
