Landlord assaults woman who rebuffed sexual advances
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A man is facing legal repercussions after allegedly forcefully pushing a woman onto his bed and hitting her in the face after she refused his sexual advances while they were discussing a rental agreement.
Omar Malcolm pleaded not guilty to unlawful wounding when he appeared in the St James Parish Court before presiding judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton recently.
According to the prosecution, on June 3 the complainant went to look at a house being rented by the defendant. During the house tour, Malcolm took her upstairs to see the wash room. While she was there, he informed her that in order to rent the place she would need to engage in sexual activities with him, as other girls had done.
The allegations are that the complainant objected, the defendant grabbed her throat, pushed her onto the bed, and attempted to remove her clothes. The complaint was able to flee the house, prompting the accused to pursue her and then punch her in the face, causing an injury.
The matter was reported to the police and Malcolm was subsequently arrested and charged.
Malcolm, who was previously granted bail in the amount of $80,000, had his bail amended. As part of the bail conditions, he is to report at a specific police station on specific days.
His bail was extended until September 11, while his case is being prepared for trial.
