Kemba Nelson heads to Paris to join 4x100m relay team
PARIS, France – Jamaica’s team manager, Ludlow Watts, has confirmed that sprinter Kemba Nelson is scheduled to join the country’s contingent of athletes in Paris for the Olympic Games within the next two days.
Watts told the Jamaica Observer that Nelson will join the Jamaica squad as a member of the women’s 4x100m relay team.
“She will be joining the team in two days,” said Watts. “She will be coming in for preparations for any needs, and so there may be a need for her presence on the team. She has made herself available for the competition.”
He noted that Nelson, who finished fifth in the women’s 100m event at the National Championships in June, will add depth to Jamaica’s 4x100m relay pool.
“We will always prepare for whatever needs arise, and in this case, it is likely that she will be required. We have made it possible for her to travel to Paris.”
Nelson, who was listed as an AP alternate athlete and is a member of the Elite Performance Track Club, has a personal best time of 10.88 seconds in the 100m event.
She ran the lead-off leg on Jamaica’s silver medal-winning 4x100m relay team at the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, in 2022.
