#ParisOlympics: High jumper Distin fails to advance to final
Jamaica’s Lamara Distin failed to get past the first round of the women’s high jump on Friday’s first session of the Olympic Games in Paris, only managing to clear 1.88m.
Distin, who was ranked third in the world with a national record 2.00m that she cleared during the NCAA indoors season, struggled through the competition.
It took her two attempts to clear both heights, the opening 1.83m and then 1.88m before failing to get over 1.92m.
Distin, who was a finalists at the last two World Athletics Championships, in Eugene in 2022 and Budapest last year, and Commonwealth Games winner in 2022, was expected to get to the final.
The former Texas A&M University standout retained her Jamaican senior national championships title in late June but only cleared 1.89m. However, she earlier cleared 1.96m in outdoors competition.
