Wall Street Trader set to dominate BGLC Trophy
Wall Street Trader, fresh from a two-month hiatus, looks well poised to dominate the competition in today’s Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) Trophy, the main attraction on the eighth race card.
This talented five-year-old American-bred dark bay/brown gelding boasts a record of two wins, two second-place finishes, and one third-place finish from five local starts.
Although he finished fourth in his last outing on May 25 over six furlongs (1,200m),
Wall Street Trader was subsequently promoted to third after third-place finisher
Bootylicious’ disqualification. The race was won by Ability beating I Am Fred.
Wall Street Trader has demonstrated exceptional form in his recent training, clocking an impressive 1:00.1 for five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course on July 21. With no clear standout in the six-horse field, he is well-positioned for a triumphant return to the winners’ circle.
Title-chasing jockey Raddesh Roman will ride Wall Street Trader, trained by Rown Mathie, in place of Robert Halledeen.
The three-year-old and upward contest going five and a half furlongs (1,100m) is positioned as the seventh event with a post time of 4:30 pm. First race is at 12:30 pm.
The battle for second place is shaping up to be an exciting one, with Joy Is Golden, Inspire Force, an A Gift From Ben emerging as top contenders.
Joy Is Golden, trained by Patrick Lynch, saw his three-race winning streak come to an end on June 22 when he finished fifth behind top-rated runners I Am Fred, Is That A Fact, and Mahogany over the same distance. Despite this, he has been working well leading up to this race and his pace suggests he could secure a share of the purse money. Tevin Foster will be in the saddle.
Inspire Force, trained by Philip Feanny, faced stiff competition in his last outing, finishing seventh behind Mamma Mia, Funcaandun, and Easy as ABC over seven and a half furlongs (1,500m) on July 7. However, his back-to-back wins over this distance make him a strong contender for second place. Phillip Parchment will ride.
A Gift From Ben has shown abilities in the past and his connections, including trainer Victor Williams, will be hoping for a good performance here. He finished second by 3 ½ lengths behind Desert of Malibu over six furlongs (1,200m) on April 13, and if he can replicate that effort, he should be in the running for the exacta spot. Ramon Nepare will be on board.
Also on tap is the BGLC/TOBA Juvenile Dash, a maiden special weight event for native-bred two-year-olds over three furlongs (600m). This event kicks start the revamped 2024-2025 BGLC/TOBA Millionaire Series, featuring 15 races for two-and-three-old horses.
Five runners take to the track, with the top honours likely to be contested between Jason Dacosta’s dynamic duo, Lovisa and Miss Moneypenny, and Anthony Nunes’ impressive Platinum Princess.
These three standout performers are poised to dominate the field, making them the ones to beat in this race.
Lovisa is a chestnut filly bred by Soul Warrior out of the Traditional mare Palace Gold. She will be ridden by Robert Halleeden.
Miss Moneypenny is a chestnut filly bred by Bern Identity out of the Pomeroy mare
Pomeroy’s Secret. She will be ridden by Foster.
Platinum Princess is a bay filly bred by Bern Identity out of the traditional mare Native Gold. Raddesh Roman will ride.
