48-y-o Portland man slapped with burglary, assault charges after attempting to steal fan
PORTLAND, Jamaica — A 48-year-old man of Black Hill district, Portland has been charged with burglary and assault at common law after he allegedly pried open the door to a residence in Duncan’s Hill, Trelawny and attempted to steal a fan.
Charged is Barrington Brown otherwise called ‘Jackulan’.
Reports from the Falmouth police are that about 2:30 am, Brown pried open the door to a house and attempted to remove a standing fan. The occupants of the house were alerted by the noise and went to investigate. In his bid to escape; the fan got tangled in a grille. Brown reportedly had to leave the item to ensure his escape.
However, when the police were summoned, Brown was seen hiding on a nearby premises. He reportedly had a knife in his hand. He was instructed to drop the weapon but disobeyed the police’s commands and attempted to use the knife to strike them.
The lawmen subdued Brown. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
His court date is being arranged.
