Dominica revokes citizenship of 68 CBI immigrants
ROSEAU, Dominica (CMC) — The Roosevelt Skerrit-led Government has revoked the citizenship of 68 people who were granted citizenship through that country’s Citizenship by Investment Programme (CBI) between 2020 and 2022.
The revocation notice was published in the Gazette on June 6, although the notice signed by Minister for Citizenship Miriam Blachard is dated May 26.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 47th Caricom Heads of Government meeting which concluded in Grenada on Tuesday, Skerritt said his Government will take action on anyone who is discovered to have provide inaccurate information to obtain Dominica’s citizenship.
“The law guides with that and we took the required action,” he said.
Dominica’s passport is valid for five years and the Citizenship Act says that any person who obtains its citizenship can be deprived of it on two grounds.
The first is, if it was obtained through registration or certificate of naturalisation by means of fraud, false representation or the concealment of a material fact; and secondly, if it is not conducive that a person continue to be a citizen of Dominica. The list includes nationals from Nigeria, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Sudan, Syria, and Afghanistan.
In January 2023, Skerrit announced that his Government had raised more than $450 million from the CBI Programme for years 2021 to 2022.
