Ramgeet proves his mastery with double win at Mountaineer
NEW CUMBERLAND, United States (CMC) — Veteran Jamaican-born jockey Andrew Ramgeet rolled back the years and made a notable return to the winners’ circle on Sunday at the Mountaineer racetrack in the United States.
The 60-year-old collected a double on the eight-race card and now has six wins from 30 rides for the season which opened April 21 and closes on December 11.
Ramgeet scored when he guided 8-5 choice Zinfatuation to win by 2 1/2 lengths in the US$18,800 allowance first race over 1,670 metres, on the turf course that featured three-year-olds and upward without two race wins.
He sent Zinfatuation clear at the off and the five-year-old chestnut gelding was rated on pace, saving ground to the upper stretch, and turned on the jets in the closing stages to clock one minute, 41.75 seconds.
Ramgeet returned to log a comfortable, five-length win aboard 6-1 chance Team Hot Line – owned by Team Ramgeet Racing Stables LLC and trained by his wife, Tina – in the US$18,800 allowance seventh race over one mile on the dirt course that featured fillies and mares three-year-olds and upward who’ve never won a race other than a maiden, claiming or starter, or who’ve never won two races.
He got Team Hot Line to press the pace through the first quarter, and got the five-year-old bay mare clear around the turn and she widened through to the upper stretch and held to finish in 1 min, 39.73 secs.
