DHQ Carlene to stage memorial for siser who died from breast cancer
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former Dancehall Queen (DHQ) Carlene will be staging a memorial event on Monday to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the passing of her sister Pinky.
Set to take place on July 29th at Club MECA, the event is set to draw huge support from a number of local entertainers including Beenie Man, Richie Stephens, Pamputtae and D’Angel. Music will be provided by Stone Love and is set to also feature performances from Beenie Man, Bounty Killer and others.
“Everybody will be there, Beenie Man, Bounty, Richie Stephens, Pamputtae, Razor B, D’Angel, Major Mackerel, everybody say dem coming,” Carlene said.
Doreen Prendergast, affectionately known as Pinky, passed away on July 29, 2023, after battling stage four breast cancer.
DHQ Carlene explained that the free event aims to raise funds and awareness for those battling cancer.
“The pain of losing you will never fade…after a year, we’re still lost without you. We love and miss you, Pinky,” Carlene told Observer Online.
Smith and Pinky revolutionised dancehall fashion in the 1990s with their daring, flesh-baring designs and dancehall panache.
Both Smith and Pinky appeared in several music videos for artistes, including Beenie Man, Tiger, and the duo Chaka Demus and Pliers.
