Atomica seeks third-consecutive win in She’s A Maneater Trophy
Atomica, the reigning two-time Horse of the Year, is on the cusp of achieving a remarkable hat-trick of wins as she prepares to take on rivals in the $1.75-million She’s A Maneater Trophy feature event at Caymanas Park today.
With an impressive track record that boasts 16 wins and two second-place finishes from 22 career starts with lifetime earnings of $25,865,100, Atomica has established herself as the current undisputed queen of the track.
Her dominance this season has been nothing short of breathtaking, with a string of performances that have left her rivals in awe.
Atomica has raced four times this year, crossing the finishing line in front on three occasions and finishing second once.
Atomica’s victories included a scintillating 15-length victory in The Viceroy Trophy on April 1, where she devoured the competition with ease, stopping the clock in a time of 1:39.2 over one mile (1,600m). She was also impressive in victories on January 1 in the Ian Levy Cup over eight and a half furlongs (1,700m) and June 1 in the Eros Trophy over seven furlongs (1,400m), where she outclassed her opponents by five lengths and three-quarters of a length, respectively.
In all of her three wins, Atomica had defeated arch-rival American-bred Is That A Fact. Her only blemish came on February 24, when she lost to Is That A Fact in the Chairman’s Trophy over seven and a half furlongs (1,500m). However, that minor setback only seems to have strengthened her resolve, as she has come back stronger and more determined than ever.
With her exceptional form, speed, and determination, it’s hard to envision anyone dethroning her. The only question on everyone’s mind is by how wide of a margin will she win? Will she continue to leave her rivals in the dust, or will someone finally rise to the challenge and push her to her limits?
One thing is certain — today’s race promises to be an exciting one and quite fitting for the She’s A Maneater Trophy, named in honour of one of the most accomplished thoroughbreds to ever grace the racetrack at Caymanas Park.
The Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over one mile is positioned as the seventh event on the 10-race card with a post time of 3:45 pm, with the first race at noon.
If Atomica, trained by Gary Subratie, is to be defeated, Jason DaCosta’s trio of Funcaandun, Mamma Mia, and Fred The Great may pose the strongest challenge.
