Judo athlete McKenzie leads the charge for Jamaica at Olympics
PARIS, France – Jamaica’s Judo competitor Ashley McKenzie will be the country’s athlete in action at the Olympic Games when he takes on Yemen’s Hesham Malabar in the first round of the men’s 60kg event at the Champ de Mars Arena in Paris on Saturday.
The match is scheduled to start at 3 am Jamaica time.
The United Kingdom-based McKenzie, who will be competing in his fourth Olympic Games, won a historic bronze medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games (CAC) for Jamaica in El Salvador last year.
He previously represented the UK at his last two Olympic Games. McKenzie says he is ready and raring to go.
“I am very honoured to be here to represent Jamaica at my first Olympic Games,” said McKenzie.
“I am ready and my body is ready and I feel like to can do some great things at this Olympic Games for Jamaica,” he said.
