JSRA aims for world Esports stage
The Jamaica Simulation Racing Association is hoping to represent Jamaica at the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) Motorsports Games 2024, scheduled for Valencia, Spain, for October 23 through 27.
“Given what has been happening here in Jamaica in sim racing, as supported by the JSRA [Jamaica Simulation Racing Association], I think we have a very good chance to showcase local talent to not just a wider audience, but a very significant one,” Stephen Stewart, president, JSRA, told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.
The JSRA will be hosting two national qualifier events for the Esports category at the FIA Motorsports Games 2024. The first will take place on August 4 to select a winner for the Esports GT group. The second, on August 10, is for the Esports F4 group.
Participation is open to all Jamaican citizens 16 years or older. There is no fee; however, entrants must have access to the gaming platforms being used for either group.
Esports GT uses Assetto Corsa Competizione. Esports F4 requires iRacing. The event is PC-based and requires steering wheel and pedal controls only.
Entrants must also have the ability to travel internationally.
Entry deadlines are the day before each event. Competitors can enter both national qualifier events. Race format details and entry details can be garnered from the JSRA.
Started in 2019 as collaboration between the FIA and SRO Motorsports Group, the FIA Motorsports Games brings together all the FIA national sporting authorities for several days of motorsports action across several genres, real and virtual. Of the now 26 categories, Esports was one of the core categories of the games.
“The winner, or winners, will have the opportunity to represent Jamaica at the upcoming FIA Motorsports Games and display their skills for the world to see. Right now we’re seeking sponsorship partners to help us make the Jamaican sim racing team at the FIA Motorsports Games a reality,” said Stewart.
