‘Fit and healthy’ Hibbert exudes confidence ahead of Olympic debut
PARIS, France – Jamaica’s triple jump medal hopeful Jaydon Hibbert says he’s confident of delivering an excellent showing for the country at the Olympic Games in Paris.
Hibbert had his second training session since arriving in Paris on Wednesday at the Ike Des Vannes complex on Friday.
He will enter his first Olympic Games as the third best jumper in the event with a mark of 7.75m.
“I am very excited to be here because this is my first Olympic Games and I am looking forward to competing here,” Hibbert told the Jamaica Observer.
“I have worked really hard to get here and I am fit and healthy so I am just going to go out there and do my best for the country,” he said.
Jordan Diaz Fortun of Spain is the world leader in the event with a jump of 18.18m.
The 19-year-old Hibbert, who did not compete at the National Championships last month, received a medical exempt for the Olympic Games.
The men’s triple jump competition is set to begin on August 7.
