Craig Butler returns to Jamaica Premier League as new Vere co-owner
Phoenix Academy boss Craig Butler is the new joint owner of Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League club Vere United.
The Observer understands that Butler, who is also the agent of Aston Villa star Leon Bailey and Chelsea’s Dujuan ‘Whisper’ Richards, reached a 10-year agreement with President Lothan Cousins to control operations including the technical aspect of the Clarendon-based club which finished ninth in the league last season.
Formerly Jamalco FC, the club is expected to change its name to “Vere Phoenix”.
He returns to the local top flight after a brief stint with another Clarendon-based club, Humble Lion, in 2014.
Along with his work in youth football through his academy, Butler has spent the last three years as head of Mona High School which he guided to the ISSA Manning Cup title last year.
