…And still no light
Dear Editor,
It has been 21 days today since our community of Ritchies in Clarendon North Western lost power due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl.
The lack of electricity has caused significant inconvenience to our residents. Like adjoining communities in the area, a first-hand look shows little to no devastating telltale signs of the hurricane, yet we have had little to no assurance of when the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) will restore our electricity.
What strikes me the most is the audacity of the power company to be issuing electricity bills for power that has not been consumed during this recording cycle.
I have made several calls to the JPS, some have been answered by representatives who sympathise with us, others by staff who seem unbothered by our well-being, and still others have gone unanswered.
We have also been using the JPS chat; however, that platform has proven to be just a showpiece and quite ineffective.
On behalf of residents in this community, we will not resort to blocking roads or other forms of protests to be heard. We are, however, requesting that JPS take immediate action to resolve this issue.
