Ambassador Williams lauds Jamaican graduates of top Chinese medical university
JAMAICA’S Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Arthur Williams has underscored the close relationship between the two countries and indicated a desire to see this continue.
Williams and his wife Jala were guests at the recent graduation ceremony of Anhui Medical University (AHMU) in China, where he delivered remarks.
“Jamaica and China have always maintained friendly and cooperative relations, and Jamaica was one of the first countries to sign the Belt and Road Initiative with China,” said Williams.
“Anhui Medical University has a complete medical talent training system, high-quality educational resources, and advanced medical facilities, and the Embassy of Jamaica in China will actively promote the practical cooperation between Anhui Medical University and Jamaican universities and medical institutions,” added Williams, who met with president of AHMU Weng Jianping and secretary of the party committee Wang Qi.
Williams expressed his thanks to AHMU for its careful training of international students in China, and congratulated more than 20 Jamaican students on their successful graduation.
He said he hopes the graduates will make useful contributions to the further development of Jamaica, on returning to island.
In his comments Qi said AHMU attaches great importance to international exchanges and cooperation and has trained a large number of high-level and high-quality medical talents for various countries, having implemented the spirit of the National Conference on the Management of Studying in China and oriented by high-quality and connotative development.
According to Qi, he hopes that with the assistance of Williams and the Jamaican Embassy in China, Anhui Medical University and Jamaica universities and medical institutions will carry out more cooperation and exchanges in the field of education, and contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
Meanwhile, Jianping introduced Ambassador Williams to the basic running of the university and to Jamaican students who were studying at AHMU.
He said it was the first time in the history of AHMU that the ambassador of the international students’ country to China had attended the graduation ceremony.
A total of 25 Jamaican students graduated from AHMU this year.
From 2010 to 2023 AHMU has trained 144 Jamaican students, with all of them graduating.
At present there are 108 registered Jamaican students at AHMU.
