Ten-man ReggaeBoyz lose 3-0 to Costa Rica
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Jamaica’s hopes of advancing from the Concacaf Championships Group A were dashed after they were beaten 3-0 by Costa Rica on Monday at the Miguel Aleman Valdez Stadium in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico.
The Under-20 team lost back-to-back games.
The young ReggaeBoyz who were hammered 9-0 by the USA in their first game on Friday, are at the bottom of the group without a point, while Costa Rica, who had drawn 1-1 against Cuba in their first game, have taken over the lead with four points.
Jamaica played the final 19 minutes of the game with 10 men after Makai Welch was shown a second yellow card by referee Fernando Hernandez in the 71st minute.
The Leyton Orient player had picked up a first yellow in the 40th minute.
Costa Rica took the lead in the 50th minute when Claudio Montero scored and Rojas added goals in the 67th and 83rd minutes.
Jamaica will end their first round schedule on Thursday against Cuba.
