Hansle Parchment says he’s fit and ready for Paris Olympics
STUTTGART, Germany – Reigning Olympic champion Hansle Parchment says he is fit and ready to defend his title in the men’s 110m hurdles event at the Paris Games.
Parchment, who has been having a quiet season so far, will enter the Olympic Games with a season’s best of 13.19 seconds, which he achieved at the National Stadium in Kingston last month.
He is the third-fastest Jamaican in the world this year, behind national champion Rasheed Broadbell’s 13.18 and Orlando Bennett’s 13.18, who both finished ahead of him in the final of the National Championships last month.
Parchment told Observer Online in an interview following a training session at his base here that he is mentally and physically ready to put on a good showing for the country at the championships.
“I am feeling good so far, I am feeling like things are coming together and I am getting fit, and I am definitely looking forward to the start of the Olympics,” he said. “I have had some time to really settle down (after the national trials) and really focus on my training without any distractions. I feel like I am a lot higher now than where I was at the trials, and so mentally I am ready,” Parchment said.
Parchment, who has a personal best of 12.93 seconds, is ranked as the 18th-fastest man over the distance this year with his season’s best time of 13.19. Grant Holloway from the US is the quickest man globally this year with his time of 12.86.
