Clunis to miss Olympics after failed CAS appeal
The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) Ad Hoc Division has ruled that it has no jurisdiction to hear the application filed by national hammer thrower Nayoka Clunis.
This means she has not been placed on Jamaica’s athletics team for the Paris Olympic Games this summer.
The decision was announced by CAS, based in Switzerland, at noon local time (5 am Jamaica time).
Clunis was seeking a spot on the team by appeal to CAS, after being removed from the Olympic team due to an admitted error by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA).
That body said Hurricane Beryl’s passing earlier this month meant it had no electricity or internet access to update its list with Clunis’ name to be submitted to World Athletics, the international governing body.
