YG Marley’s Praise Jah in the Moonlight mines gold in UK
In 1978, Tuff Gong/Island Records released the album Kaya by Bob Marley and the Wailers.
Among the tracks on the album was Crisis, which Marley wrote, and which featured musicians such as Junior Marvin, Tyrone Downie, Aston Barrett, Carlton Barrett, Winston Grennan, Alvin Patterson, Vincent Gordon, and Glen DaCosta.
Crisis received a new lease on life when it was sampled by Marley’s grandson, YG Marley, in his international hit Praise Jah in the Moonlight.
Released last December, Praise Jah in the Moonlight took European charts by storm, ranking #1 in the Netherlands, New Zealand, and on the UK Indie chart. It made the Top Ten in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, and Australia.
The song made it to #20 in Canada and #34 on the Billboard Hot 100.
On Friday July 19, the song earned another musical accolade, when it was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for sales exceeding 400,000 units.
Previously, the song was certified gold in the United States (500,000 units), platinum in New Zealand (30,000 units), and platinum in Canada (80,000 units).
