US gospel singer Jekalyn Carr headlines The Redemption
Five-time Stellar Gospel Music Award winner and multi-Grammy-nominated gospel singer Jekalyn Carr is the headliner for the inaugural staging of The Redemption.
The gospel music showcase is scheduled for Jamworld in Portmore on Friday, August 16.
Among the other performers are Joan Brown, Evangelist Raylene Lindo, Trevon Clarke, Dawn Martin Panton, Kyamran, Smash Muzik, Sister Patt, Minister Yvonne Cohen, Donna Weatherburn, Messenjah Prince, Minister Howdy, Rian Davis, Johnmark Wiggan, Kirkland Moses, Pastor and Evangelist Ferguson, and The Genesis Praise Choir.
Yvette Robinson, one of the organisers of the event, explained the concept behind the show in an interview with the Jamaica Observer recently.
“The whole idea and concept behind The Redemption is to bring people together for a night of gospel music, inspiration, and upliftment, with the goal of promoting spiritual redemption and personal transformation,” said Robinson.
The Redemption is promoted by The Joycelyn Lewis Foundation, whose mission is to support charitable causes and community development through music and arts.
Asked why Jamworld was chosen as the venue for the event, Robinson stated, “It was chosen for its state-of-the-art facilities, ample parking, and central location, making it an ideal venue for a large-scale event like The Redemption.”
Robinson added: “The main objective of The Redemption is to create a platform for people to come together, be inspired, and experience spiritual renewal, while also supporting a worthy cause. Patrons can expect an unforgettable night of powerful performances, heartfelt testimonies, and an electric atmosphere of praise and worship.”
She also shared that the investment to host the event was substantial.
“Substantial investments have been made in talent booking, venue rental, marketing, and production to ensure a high-quality event,” Robinson disclosed.
Jekalyn Carr is best known locally for the hit songs Greater is Coming, Jehovah Jireh, My Portion, You Will Win, You’re Bigger, and New Day.
To date, she has charted seven albums on Billboard’s Gospel Albums chart, two of which have topped the chart. Her self-titled album Jekalyn peaked at #13 last year.
