Police pension issues
Dear Claudienne,
In 1979 I enlisted in the Jamaica Constabulary Force. I resigned in December 2001 after 21 years and 10 months of service. I was stationed at the Beat and Foot Patrol office on West Street, downtown Kingston, and also worked at the airport and at police stations at Elletson Road, Rollington Town, Waterford, Spanish Town, and Central Village.
I now live in Georgia, USA, and in 2020, I applied for my pension. All the relevant documents were sent to the Police Human Resources Department, but I have not heard from them.
Please help me as, at this point, I do not know if I will get a pension. I do not know if my pension application is at the finance ministry or accountant general.
LP
Dear LP,
On April 29,2024, the senior director, human resource management & development JCF — Human Resource Division informed Tell Claudienne that your documents had been submitted to the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, Pension Administration Unit on February 21, 2024 for you to be awarded a deferred pension.
On June 19,2024, the Ministry of Finance instructed the accountant general to award you a pension of $227,297.41 a year with effect from January 26, 2019.
The ministry stated the following:
“He has elected to receive in lieu of the pension
Reduced pension $170,473.06 a year and
Gratuity $710,3.4.41
The ministry also stated that:
“Based on the award amount Mr LP falls below the minimum pension threshold approved by the Government of Jamaica. Therefore, he should be paid at the minimum pension rate applicable.”
We wish you all the best.
