Nigy Boy honoured at Reggae Sumfest
MONTEGO BAY, St James— Dancehall artiste Nigy Boy was honoured by the St James Municipal Corporation with the 2024 Silver Montego Bay Sumfest City Award in recognition of his outstanding achievement in the entertainment industry following his debut on Festival Night Two at Reggae Sumfest early Sunday morning.
The honour was presented to him by Mayor of Montego Bay Richard Vernon as well as Reggae Sumfest’s executive producer Joe Bogdanovich and director Robert Russell.
In accepting the citation and award, an overjoyed Nigy Boy thanked his supporters for relishing in a moment which he said he has been manifesting for himself from as long as eight years ago.
“I just wanna say it was a privilege being here, and I like how everything came full circle. My first ever performance was in the place I came from, Montego Bay. I appreciate all of you for coming out. The love is real; one heart… love you, always and forever,” he said, to which the crowd responded with loud cheers.
His performance was remarkable in its own right, particularly owed to his silver alien outfit, backup dancers and extras dressed in robotic costumes. He performed popular hits such as Judgement as well as a cover of Dexta Daps’ Breaking News and Kranium’s Nobody Has To Know.
The 23 year-old artiste had a breakout single with Continent, produced by Tarik “Rvssian” Johnston, earlier this year.
It earned him fans in Jamaica as well as dancehall-reggae markets in the United States, The Bahamas and Guyana.
