Lauryn Hill makes surprise appearance at Reggae Sumfest
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Grammy Award-winning singer Lauryn Hill made a special guest appearance during her son YG Marley’s set at Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, St James early Saturday.
Clad in a matching two-piece set of shades of sky blue, brown, green and purple, along with a long beaded head piece, Hill had the packed venue echoing screams as she made her way on to the stage. One of her other sons, Zion, was also present.
Festival-goers were treated to approximately 15 minutes of entertainment courtesy of the early morning’s bonus guest. She wasted no time rendering popular hits like Killing Me Softly and Lost Ones, noting that the latter has special connections to the island.
“That song was recorded was recorded in Jamaica (at) 56 Hope Road, Kingston,” she said
The address is the former home-turned-museum of King of Reggae, Bob Marley.
Hill also performed the Fugees’ Ready Or Not, and an a capella version of Turn Your Lights Down Low.
As for her son, he balanced his act with smoking a ganja spliff; eventually ending with his mega hit Praise Jah In The Moonlight.
