First-time traveller wins ‘Power Up for Paris’ promotion
THIRTY-YEAR-OLD Shantel Davy will be travelling overseas for the first time after winning a trip to Paris, France, for the 2024 summer Olympic Games courtesy of Powerade, the isotonic sports drink brand distributed by Wisynco Group Limited.
Davy, a security guard, was randomly selected from several entries in the Powerade ‘Power up for Paris’ promotion, after purchasing two Powerade and two 355ml Coca-Cola at a supermarket in Montego Bay, St James, and entering the promotion.
“I really didn’t have any expectation to win. It’s the first time in my life I am winning something,” said Davy.
She shared that she was persuaded by the brand representative in the supermarket to enter the promotion. The promotion ran from April 21 to June 2 with entries being accepted via WhatsApp.
A symbolic handover was recently held at Wisynco’s Lake’s Pen, St Catherine head office, where Davy was presented with her ‘boarding pass’ and official grand prize from the senior brand manager of the Coca-Cola portfolio, Chantellee McDonald.
“Athletics and sports hold a very special place in the hearts and minds of Jamaicans, and as the official sports drink for the Olympic Games, it was paramount for us to provide our consumers with an opportunity to celebrate with our Jamaican athletes in Paris.
“Powerade is synonymous with sports and this campaign aligned perfectly with the brand’s commitment to celebrating and supporting athletes,” said McDonald.
Not only will Davy experience a one-week all-expenses-paid trip to Paris, she also gets to take someone along with her for the experience. Davy chose one of her closest friends, Shanique, to share in the journey with her. It will also be Shanique’s first time travelling overseas.
“I really thought it was a prank when she called me and told me,” Shanique said. “However, after a while I realised, she was actually serious, and I got really excited.”
Both women said that they are ecstatic about the trip and are looking forward to seeing the Jamaican athletes compete in-person, in addition to experiencing a new country and travelling for the first time.
“We are so happy for Shantel and her friend, and have gifted them with some special goodies for their trip. We truly hope this experience will be fun and memorable for them,” McDonald said.
