Levell in last 200m race before Paris
National men’s 200m champion Bryan Levell will compete in the men’s 200m at the Holloway Pro Classic at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida, on Friday.
It will be his final race before heading to the Jamaican pre-Olympic Games camp in Stuttgart, Germany, next week.
Level,l who was disqualified from the men’s 100m at the Ed Murphey Classic a week ago after a false start, will be competing in the 200m for the first time since he won the event at the JAAA National Championships, running his personal best 19.97 seconds.
He is one of four Jamaican men who will contest the half-lap event and one of nine Jamaicans who will take part in the meet that is part of the American Track league series.
Ashanie Smith, Javari Thomas and 400m specialist JeVaughn Powell will also contest the men’s 200m that will also see American Olympic-bound Erriyon Knighton also taking part.
Smith will also contest the men’s 100m along with Sandrey Davison, Julian Forte, Nigel Ellis, and Jazeel Murphy and they will go up against Americans Pjai Austin, Brandon Hicklin, Trayvon Bromwell, and Kyree King. Wanya McCoy of The Bahamas and Emmanuel Matadi, who will be part of the Liberian men’s 4x100m relay team at the Paris Games, will also feature.
Yanique Thompson is set to be part of a deep 100m hurdles race that will see a number of Olympic Games medal prospects lining up, led by world leader Masai Russell of the USA.
World record holder Tobi Amusan, world indoor 60m hurdles champion Charisma Taylor, former world record holder Keni Harrison, Denisha Cartwright, Grace Stark, and Cindy Sember will all make the race the most competitive of the day.
Tyler Mason will contest the 110m hurdles where he will face Americans Michael Dickson, Eric Edwards and Darius Luff while Ronda Whyte will contest the women’s 400m hurdles against Gianna Woodruff, Cassandra Tate and Dalilah Muhammad.
Demish Gaye will contest the men’s 400m where he will face world leader Quincy Wilson, Wil London, Bryce Deadmon, and Jacory Patterson.
O’Brien Wasome is down to compete in the men’s triple jump were former world and Olympic champion Christian Taylor is expect to make his final competitive appearance before retiring.
