JRA president anticipates electrifying shooting at Jamaica Cup
ROHAN Wilson, president of Jamaica Rifle Association (JRA), is anticipating an electrifying Jamaica Cup this year as the practical pistol shooting competition continues to intensify.
The Jamaica Cup is set to take place on July 27, 2024 at Jamaica Rifle Association’s (JRA) facility located at 148 Mountain View Avenue in St Andrew.
Wilson said that the practical pistol shooting event promises to be a thrilling spectacle, showcasing the skills and expertise of top shooters.
With the bar set high, Wilson expects an unforgettable experience for all involved.
“In terms of success, it has shown where the sport of practical pistol has grown immensely since its inauguration of this competition from the rest of competitions that we have held in Jamaica,” Wilson told the
Jamaica Observer.
“I expect fireworks this year. The competition has got so competitive over the years and so my expectation is that there will be surprise winners in various divisions,” he added.
The Jamaica Cup is a level three match, as designated by International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC), the global governing body for practical shooting.
The IPSC has over 100 affiliate regions worldwide, and Jamaica is one of its regional bodies. Level three matches are regional competitions, second only to level four continental and level five world competitions.
In addition to the main competition, JRA will host a special event on July 26, 2024 featuring security organisations in practical pistol shooting competitions. This event will include a three-stage match and a steel shoot-off during which teams and individuals will vie for trophies and top honours in the shooting fraternity.
The Jamaica Cup is not only a celebration of marksmanship and skill but also a testament to Jamaica’s rich culture and hospitality. The event promises to be an exciting and action-packed experience, with great prizes, professional officiating, and a unique opportunity to experience the infectious Jamaican culture.
As an added incentive, the Jamaica Cup will also serve as a qualifying match for the 2025 World Shoot, to be held in South Africa, making it an important step for athletes seeking to represent their country on the global stage.
