JPS says customers may receive estimated light bills this month
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) advised customers on Friday that the electricity bills they receive this month may be estimated as several areas of their operations were disrupted due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 3.
One of the areas that the power company said has been affected is its ability to do actual meter readings whether remotely or manually.
In a letter to customers JPS wrote that as a result of the disruption “your bill for the period June to July may be estimated— so don’t be puzzled if it doesn’t seem to reflect your most recent usage.”
The company added that estimated bills are calculated using the average of the last three actual readings. It said however that actual usage will be reflected in customers’ next meter reading.
“… we recognise that this estimate may not reflect your true electricity usage since the passage of the hurricane. But not to worry, your actual usage will be reflected on your next meter reading. Any over-estimation or under-estimation will therefore be taken into account for your next bill,” the advisory said.
The power company went on to apologise for having to send estimated bills, but stated that it is continuing efforts to reduce sending estimated bills to customers in general.
